Kayak Your Way Around Sanibel and Experience Pure Bliss

According to Lee County's Parks and Recreation Department, the Calusa Blueway is truly unique.
It's a 190-mile marked canoe and kayak trail that threads its way through Lee County's coastal waters and inland tributaries.
Many people are familiar with Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast beaches, often natural beaches located on barrier islands.
Far fewer people are aware of what's "hiding" behind the island. Here, even more secluded is a maze of mangroves. These saltwater tolerant trees and the wildlife that live in them create an eco-environment more similar to the Pantanal in Brazil than any domestic destination.
Now, you can experience this magical and hidden maze on the Calusa Blueway. The Blueway will take you through shallow waters that will keep you and other paddlers safely away from places powerboats travel. The absence of motors and boat partiers help to make the Blueway not only beautiful and safe but quiet as well. This water trail will put you closer to nature, where you will be able to sight roseate spoonbills feeding at dawn, schools of silver-hued fish darting around your boat and manatees grazing on sea grasses.
And, unlike most U.S. and Canadian paddling trails, the Great Calusa Blueway is marked with signs. Further safety precautions are provided with Global Positioning System coordinates on Lee County Park's Web site. To further enhance your navigation, free maps are available at various locations -- outfitters, marinas, retail sites, parks, boat ramps, office buildings, chambers of commerce, airports, visitor centers, etc.
The Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail was created to help people like you experience the natural magic of Lee County.

At the end of of a day of wondrous paddling, you head back to your condo on Sanibel Island.
