Kiawah Island is a unique and beautiful retreat just off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. What makes this Island unique? First, Kiawah Island has one of the few beaches on the East Coast that runs east-to-west and actually faces south. Nestled in this harbored area where the coastline cuts inward, the surf on Kiawah is almost always gentle and calm.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, Charleston is a city with a ton of history. Arguably, the Civil War started in Charleston via Fort Sumter, which is located in the harbor. A major shipping port during those times, the city is now one of the most attractive in the United States. The architectural style is definitely old south, but with a mix of influences. Certain areas of the town feel like New Orleans with garden areas and hanging patios. Other areas have a distinct Caribbean feel and yet others are stereotypical old south manner homes.

Columbia is South Carolina's capital, and a lot of people choose to live here. It's centrally located to the beach and the mountains. It's one of the biggest cities in the state, and the population has grown to just over 120,000. Some of the biggest employers in the area are the University of South Carolina, the state government, and the hospital systems. Columbia (and Greenville) are the most affordable places to live in South Carolina that are also relatively good sized cities.

If you are dating in South Carolina you should go to the Museum of Confederate History which has a huge collection of firearms and photographs. They also have a collection of newspapers and currency and if your hobby is collecting currencies, you can go here to see what kind you miss in your collection. The Rice Museum is the next museum you should go visit while dating here in this state. Here you will learn about the rice culture in Georgetown county and a lot about the history of America's agriculture. The Horry museum has history concerning the Horry county.

Kiawah Island Resort offers one of and possibly the most luxurious golf school destinations in the world. This Charleston golf school location has three courses ranked on Golf Digest's list of "America's Top 75 Resort Courses". Kiawah Island Resort hosted the 1990 Ryder Cup and in the future will host the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and 2012 PGA Championship.

The capital and largest city of South Carolina is Columbia. Other important cities in South Carolina include Anderson, Aiken, Beaufort, Charleston, Florence, Georgetown, Greenwood, Hilton Head, Moncks Corner, Mount Pleasant, Myrtle Beach, Newberry, North Charleston, Orangeburg, Rock Hill, Spartanburg and Sumter.

Adjacent to the mighty Chattooga River in the northwestern upcountry is Sumter National Forest. This former Cherokee and Piedmont tribal range is currently headquartered in Mountain Rest. Because Sumter occupies three distinctive ranger districts, this national forest is best loved for its diversity of recreational options. In addition to the Chattooga's dazzling whitewater floats and kayaking adventures, forest visitors enjoy hiking or biking on the Foothills National Recreation Trail and gazing at Whitewater Falls, the highest cascades east of the Mississippi.
