Kayak Forward Stroke Dvd
As an experienced kayak surfer and having served as a sea kayaking tour guide off the coast of Newfoundland for four years, I am often times asked, "Why not just use a boat so you don't have to do all the work?" This for me is a great opportunity to refer to the many physical and psychological advantages of kayaking. Whether we are talking about the strenuous workout, the satisfaction of completing an extended trip or even the spectacular scenery and views from vantage points you won't find on land, I am eager to share the ins and outs of kayaking.
Kayaking is unique in that it can be a very relaxing and tranquil experience, or an arduous activity; it all comes down to you. Regardless, the physical conditioning experienced through kayaking is very beneficial. The focus on core strength, stability and sense of body awareness are all essential in developing proper kayaking form and technique.
This being said, many people assume kayaking requires a great deal of upper body strength, particularly the upper arms, and may avoid the sport as a result. However, this is for the most part untrue. The basic kayaking forward stroke involves very little flexing at the elbow, which would engage the biceps and triceps, and instead utilizes rotation of the torso. This motion is advantageous as it affords you the ability to paddle for a longer stretch of time, as your core contains muscle groups more suited to repetition and endurance. If you were to recruit your arms at a high level, they would fatigue quickly and reduce your capacity to repeat the appropriate motion for longer durations. So be aware, when I hear "I'm tired and my arms hurt!" I know the real culprit here is improper technique of the forward stroke.
In addition, core stability and balance are called into play when dealing with varying conditions on the water. In general, kayaks are quite stable, but when paddling a longer boat (typically 17'+), with a more slender build, maintaining the boat upright requires a great deal more balance. The constant activation of your mid-section is unavoidable while paddling and this results in strong abdominals, a welcomed benefit of kayaking! Your core strength also has carry over value in other areas of your life; you may notice many of your everyday tasks becoming easier to perform and possibly even a reduction of pain and flare-ups from old injuries.
Aside from the physical advantages, kayaking offers a broad spectrum of psychological advantages. The shoreline is quite spectacular and should you find yourself on a kayak in the near future, paddle alongside the shore and navigate your way through the shallow waters and rock gardens. It is also quite an experience to view firsthand the homes of several species of native wildlife. The opportunity to witness whales, sharks or seals in an ocean setting is really the chance of a lifetime- above and beyond anything you may have experienced from a larger vessel. Peace of mind knowing that your choice to kayak is quiet, tranquil and environmentally friendly is all the more reason to begin your journey into the world of kayaking. Happy paddling!

Sea Eagle 385FTK_DLX Sea Eagle 385Ft Fast Track Kayak Deluxe Package $1498.95 Our NEW Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack was born to explore large lakes with secluded islands long meandering rivers intimate salt marshes with winding water passages inland bays hidden ocean coves. The secret of this new design is the outside drop stitch keel in the bow and the large skeg in the stern. These features combine to limit the yaw (the sideways movement when using a double end paddle) of this kayak and create unparalleled bite on the water. When the paddler takes a paddle stroke on the left or right side the drop stitch keel in bow acts as a block against the natural yaw of the kayak while the skeg keeps the kayak tracking forward. This bite propels the kayaker forward more efficiently because the natural yaw of the kayak is contained resulting in greater speed and a straighter course in other words the fastest way is the straightest line. A very important feature is the high pressure drop stitch floor. It provides rock solid rigidity to the whole structure of the kayak making it very responsive to paddle strokes. The drop stitch floor even makes this kayak rigid enough to be used as a Standup Paddle Board. The Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack Kayak can be paddled for many miles and many hours with little effort. It will go straight in whatever direction you want and it will hold a course no matter at what angle you are paddling in relation to the wind. This new design is truly a breakthrough in the evolution of inflatable kayaks. Standard Features:. NMMA Certified. 2 High capacity selfbailing drain valves. Front rear spray skirts with storage below and elastic rope lacing for additional storage above. Separate inner High Pressure Drop Stitch floor for greater rigidity. Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius (DVD) $17.48 Designer of the Augusta National Golf Club where the Masters Tournament is played, Bobby Jones is a golf legend, portrayed in this biopic by Jim Caviezel (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST). The film shows the tremendous achievements for which Jones will be forever remembered, while also realistically conveying the challenges he faced, and the great golfers who mentored him along the way. Sweeping photography adds breathtaking appeal to the chronological story of Jones' life. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was born in 1902, he suffered from a stomach illness that made him unable to join other boys in playing baseball. Instead, he followed his father's games of golf and practiced by himself. By age 14, he was competing in national competitions, and was recognized as a fine golfer with perfect form and a remarkable stroke. Atlanta Journal writer O.B. Keeler (Malcolm McDowell) predicted that Jones would become one of the greatest golfers of all time, and, through years of close friendship, he saw that become a reality. Not only was Jones the winner of the Grand Slam--a combination of four tournaments that consisted of the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Open, the British Amateur, and the British Open--he brought a high level of integrity to the game. His admirable golf career was not the limit of his success, however. He also earned degrees in engineering, English literature, and law--and opened a private law practice after he retired from professional golf in 1930. A delightful film that benefits from strong performances, including those of supporting actors Claire Forlani and Jeremy Northam, BOBBY JONES: STROKE OF GENIUS nicely captures Jones' chapter in the history of golf. |
