YETI Tundra Coolers Receives Honorable Mention for Field & Stream’s Best of the Best
Every year the Field & Stream magazine judges the best of the year’s hunting and fishing products and puts them through a torturous test to determine “The Best of the Best.” The winners are products that are a cut above the rest in innovation, design, quality and functionality. They also have to live up a field test by real outsdoorsmen, who are the extremely passionate editors and staff of Field and Stream magazine. The results for 2009 have been released for this grueling competition in time for summer and were detailed in the March 2009 issue.
For companies who make products in the industry, just being considered is an achievement in itself, because not everyone gets past the first review. Field and Stream took an extraordinarily close look at almost 500 entries, divided into 11 categories. The YETI Tundra Cooler received an honorable mention in the Fishing Accessories category. According to the Test Team at Field and Stream:
“Having spent a lifetime using cheap coolers with hinges and fasteners the inevitably break, I’m glad to see that the Yeti is built like the proverbial brick outhouse,” remarked Field and Stream’s fishing blogger, John Merwin, on their website. “There are 2 full inches of insulation inside the rotomolded body and lid. Hinges are recessed to avoid knocks, and the lid has a massive, freezer-type seal.”
The Tundra Series, YETI’s next generation cooler, is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid. The body of the cooler is the same type of material used to make tough river kayaks. The Tundra Series has a pad-lock mechanism, and when locked allows it is be successfully certified as bear resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC). The roto-molded one-piece casing will withstand the high impact of clawing, biting, thrashing, kicking, and cursing of any physical onslaught.
