Aluminum Boats--An Informed Perspective

The majority of non-wood boats are made of a high tech material for lighter weight. A very prominent lighter weight material is ALUMINUM which is a type of metal alloy, and it has a portability, and durability, unlike fiberglass or wood. Many of the standard features on these boats are made of stainless steel, (e.g. the tying rings (on the outside for towing,) and include also parts of gadgets and gauges, plus at least four heavy duty "lift points."

Vinyl is a material used on aluminum boats, especially around the "bump rail," and this particular vinyl is heavy duty and resists marring. Much of the flotation is accomplished through full, non-absorbent foam. Said boats are much easier to repair in the event a repair is mandated. Any minor damage to the boat can usually be taken care of by one person. These boats never need waxing unlike the popular and flashy fiberglass boats.

Corrosion is another concern to boat owners who use their boats in both fresh water and salt water venues. Aluminum boats have a superior resistance to corrosion. They are increasing in popularity because of their solid construction, durability and buoyancy, and the ability of he material to repel "dings." Many sportsmen prefer aluminum boats for fishing, as well as their becoming increasingly more popular for other recreational activities.

They are also less costly to operate, using less fuel than many of the heavier models which utilize heavier (more horsepower) motors. They are more comfortable to transport and launch, and more durable to withstand temperature changes and store.
